A new home for the leaders of Libya, Egypt, Bahrein, Tunesia and other countries in North-Africa and the Middle-East

The following lyrics are from Roger Waters, co-founder and former frontman of Pink Floyd. Although written in 1982, the lyrics are as topical as if they were written yesterday. You just have to replace the names of the leaders in 1982 by the names of todays’ leaders.

The name ‘Fletcher’, mentioned in the title of this song, is the second name of Roger’s father, Eric Fletcher Waters. He was a British soldier who was shot in the 2nd World War, before Roger had the opportunity to know him.

"The Fletcher Memorial Home"
take all your overgrown infants away somewhere
and build them a home a little place of their own
the fletcher memorial
home for incurable tyrants and kings
and they can appear to themselves every day
on closed circuit t.v.
to make sure they're still real
it's the only connection they feel
"ladies and gentlemen, please welcome reagan and haig
mr. begin and friend mrs. thatcher and paisley
mr. brezhnev and party
the ghost of mccarthy
the memories of nixon
and now adding colour a group of anonymous latin
american meat packing glitterati"
did they expect us to treat them with any respect
they can polish their medals and sharpen their
smiles, and amuse themselves playing games for a while
boom boom, bang bang, lie down you're dead
safe in the permanent gaze of a cold glass eye
with their favourite toys
they'll be good girls and boys
in the fletcher memorial home for colonial
wasters of life and limb
is everyone in?
are you having a nice time?
now the final solution can be applied

Lyrics: Roger Waters Music: Pink Floyd

The song and lyrics are coming from the 1983 Pink Floyd album ‘The final cut’. Although this was the album every Pink Floyd fan loved to hate, it is still much better than the best albums of 99% of the other pop groups. Buy this album and actually, buy all Pink Floyd albums (I don’t get paid for this “ad”). It is music that can change your life for the better.
